Hi,

I downloaded my Customers data via phpmyadmin to change some information, however, I am having some problem uploading it and I was hoping someone could help me with the right settings:

This is what my settings looked like when I downloaded the customers data:

This is what the upload page looks like

I would appreciate if someone could help me with what I should enter in the following fields:

Character Set: (I believe it should be the default UTF8)?
Number of records to skip from start?
Replcade table data with file?
Ignore duplicate rows?
Fileds terminated by: default is ; but I think it should be , ??
Fields enclosed by
Fields escaped by
Lines terminated by
Column names

Thanks

Set up a test database and use Admin/Data Manager/Easy Populate, rather than creating a whole new csv and going via phpmyadmin.

Of all those settings, the one I doubt would be the character set - more likely to be iso-8859-1
NOT utf-8.

Hi,

I couldnt find iso-8859-1 in the Character set dropdown. I couldnt resist the temptation and went ahead with utf8. The query was executed successfully and so fareverything seems to be working fine. The username changes that I was attempting also seem to have been successful. However, I am worried if problems could occur if charset is wrong in the future? Is there a way of finding out, if thing are wrong?

I will really appreciate any assistance with this.

Thanks

It depends what characters you're using on your store. Cre sites tend to use charset iso-8859-1 by default (have a look at /includes/languages/english.php for the default charset of your store.) UTF-8 characters have additional info that gets sent to the browser so you can end up with some things eg bullets points looking like black diamonds with question marks in them, or additional characters appearing when currency symbols are used.
Also depends on your server charset setup in apache config.

Bottom line - check your site.

Hi,

Where exactly should I be looking for problems? So far, I have checked my customer account data in the admin panel, as well as address info for a couple of accounts on the front end and dont see any problems. Do you know where I should be looking for unusual characters?

Also, is this likely to have any impact on future account registrations?

Thanks

In the database, tables like - address book, customers, product descriptions. You'd be looking for odd characters.
It will affect names/addresses using various punctuation/accent marks, bullet points in prod descriptions, that sort of thing ... and how they're displayed on your store. Like I said, it depends on how you're setup.

Hi Simon,

I only updated the customers data table, do I still need to be looking at other places?
