 Post subject: PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN) messages - Broken
PostPosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:22 am
Hi I am new here.

I wonder if anyone can help me, I am getting IPN failures on my store. It only recently started to happen.

I am running - CRE Loaded Professional B2B v6.3.2 with patch:2 at revision:1667

PayPal are now threatening to disable IPN on my verified account with them. Does anyone know what this error is?

My PayPal module has been setup using the same email address (I have tried combinations of others) - Return URL behavior 2=POST

Some orders go through fine, others do not.

Email from PayPal:

Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN) messages. Messages sent to the following URL(s) are not being received:

http://www.ir-models.com/ipn.php

If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information.

Once you or your service provider fix this problem, you or your service provider can resend the failed messages from the IPN History page. If this problem continues, PayPal may disable the IPN feature for your account.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.

Yours sincerely,

PayPal

I used to use Les Patrick from http://www.creloadedoscommercetemplates.com but he has stopped answering my calls and emails and I am in desperate need of someone to help me manage and upgrade the site. Anyone interested? if so please PM me.

8Infinite8,

I began having the same issue last week. Any insight into this correction would be great. I'm still running 6.2 and upgrading to 6.4 right now would be a nightmare, and that's putting it nicely.

Any developers out there to help us out? $$ :-)

Just to mention a couple things for thought.

I just purchase 6.4 upgrade, so I'm looking for tech help like everyone else on this thread. I have thousands on CRE and mods and will continue to do so, but seriously would like to know how to fix the Paypal issue quickly, if possible.

I'v been putting off the upgrading due to the extreme headaches that will surely follow, but would like to be able to do it in a controlled fashion rather than having a commerce site down by proceeding. An insight from a moderator would be happily welcomed to allow myself and I suspect many others in getting back online while we upgrade to the latest.

Go to PayPal and check your IPN History under History. Click on the links and find the HTTP responses. That will give you some direction to the error.

Tons of variables can cause this to break and sometimes its PayPal's problem. Take a scan on PayPal developer forum and see if others are reporting recent problems. Sometimes that's the only place PayPal mentions IPN problems.

Back up your current PayPal module and install the new one from CRE. Once you get it installed take the IPN file from the ext subfolders and put it in the root so you have it in 2 places. :wink:

Take a look at your .htaccess file and see if the file date is recent. If PayPal has IPN problems and dumps all of them at once and you have quite a few then your server will add PayPal's IP address to your .htaccess file thinking your site is suffering a DOS attack to block them. That changes the .htaccess file date and adds the directive deny from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (ip address).

Those are best guesses to resolution without looking closely at the problem.

Thanks for the reply dsauthority.

Can you recommend anyone directly who may be able to look into this situation personaly for me? I really need to fix this problem and the things you mentioned are a bit beyond my capabilities. I tried to work with Logon.info (who initial looked perfect) as suggested here by another mod through the developer showcase but they are ignoring my emails and Skype conversations for some reason.

Anyone? Currently IPN notifications are now turned off for my store and considering I rely on automated payments for my customers to get access to the FDM downloads, its very frustrating that I have to do this by hand now all because of these failed IPN's from PayPal.

I recently upgraded to a new server and the main folder path to the store was updated to public_html. Maybe this has something to do with it?

Anyone? I am willing to pay a developer to help me with this?

to anyone finding this we had this problem and the solution for us was to mark out the following lines in ipn.php;

/*

//post back to PayPal system to validate
if(!$ipn->authenticate(MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_DOMAIN) && $ipn->testMode('Off')) $ipn->dienice('500');

//Check both the receiver_email and business ID fields match
if (!$ipn->validateReceiverEmail(MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_ID,MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_BUSINESS_ID)) $ipn->dienice('500');
*/

Don't know what they do, suspect they check that the IPN notice is in fact coming from paypal and not some 7 year Nigerian. It's not a problem for us as we are moving the site to another cart soon and we'll just keep an eye on the orders and check each one.
