I was curious if anyone has tried to use the new contribution in the downloads area for phpBB2 admin mod. I just wanted to know if anyone ran into any problems with it or what not since there's a lot of stuff to do and I don't want to do all that and it not work with my pixame template.
Actually let me rephrase that, has anyone tried the phpbb 2.0 oscommerce contrib? What issues if any are there for using that with pixame? And it says you need the admin access with levels contrib but isn't that included in cre6? Hope someone can help, cuz I needs me a forum contrib with a quickness. The natives (my client) are getting restless!

Loaded definitely has Admin with Access Levels - requires an added step for pretty much every admin contribution added...

As to what it would take to get it to work with Pixame, I'm not sure. My quick scan of the contribution led me to indicate it just supported sharing users lists. Configuration and templating would seem to be separate at first glance.

I've been trying and it's a bugger!

It has potential, but it's not there yet.

Thought I had it going but then went to look at the admin for it and the left index fram would not display, makes adminning the thing difficult. All the functions did work though when I typed in the links for them, jus the left admin index display wouldn't work. Never got this puzzle solved yet.

:(

hi motorbelly, have you tried the phpbb2 admin mod at http://www.phesis.co.uk/modules.php?nam ... egorystart ?

That was created to overcome the problem you have with typing in the address manually and a few other little bugfixes. It allows access to the forum administration to be controlled like other parts of the cre admin panel, or indeed any other site with Admin Access contribution installed.

The mod iteself only requires one simple change in 1 file, so therefore is easy to rollback if you have any problems...

Hope this helps..

best,

also, in this thread is the question, is phpbb2 contibution in general good / easy to add....my comments are this...

1. the main thing i can remember was changing the layout of the module.php page to comply more with the bts template system, if i remember correctly i copied /templates/original/main_page.tpl.php to a new file, took the 'forum content calling code ' out of modules.php and inserted it in my copy of mainpage INSTEAD of the 'mainpage content calling code' in mainpage, then copied the whole of my new copied page, into the content of the module.php.....works for me anyway. as ever BACKUP before you do something, the sweet taste of restoring backed up work is the finest taste !

2. the only other thing is that somewhere along the line, the right hand column was commented out, basically the forum calling code you just used above ends with 'page_tail' and when you find that 'page tail' template page deep inside your /inclues/modules/phpbb2/templates/subsilver etc etc you will see the right hand column commented out...

i think this may be to do with the last error i have with this mod overall, and that is that when you click certain links in the forums, (specifically, where there is no result to show, i.e. seach with no reslts, next topic where there is no next topic) you get an ugly fatal error in the right hand column, this doesnt appear when you are posting, viewing etc so hopefully i will track it down eventually...

there is quite a lengthy discussion on the support forum at the oscommerce site and whereas some of the info on there wont apply to your particular setup, i have found that most errors i have had installing this contribution have been discussed in there one way or the other.

personally i thought and still think this mod is a great addition to certain types of websites and is well worth the effort required to get it going....

if i get chance this week, i will post a creloaded version of phpbb2 with the whole lot, not just the admin mod i posted earlier.

hth..

Holy Cow!!

This is great! It did involve a few more than one change but it was still easy and it just what was needed.

Thank you so much for the pointer and I need to thank that contributer!
