Hello!

I am interested in switching my store from Oscommerce to CRE Loaded. Please tell me if there is an extension/contribution to CRE Loaded that would allow the client to narrow his search of the products deppending on several attributes like in the following store: http://www.magazinultau.ro/componente-p ... 15_58.html

For example to go into the hard drives category and choose to see only the hard drives that have between 100-500 Gb. Thank you in acvance for your reply.

Are you using any oscommerce contribution for this feature in your current store? If yes then you can use the same one for Creloaded as the internal structure is same

Thank you for your reply.

No, we are not using any contribution that would allow the client to filter the products listed in a certain category, yet. We were plannling to hire a php-guy to make one, but we found out about CRE Loaded and we find it much more suitable than oscommerce for the multiple functions available.

If we don't have one, is there any already available for sale?

Hi All,

I had one kindly made for me by a developer who used it as training time for his team or something. However, whilst they did a great job filtering within my "Search(advanced)" results, he has had to leave with no further time allowed to place the filtering code within the main categories to the left of my store and within products selected from "new products" module etc.

I am sure it is ok for me to post, as no monies exchanged hands and it's Open Source as far as I'm aware, so sent to the community in good faith.

If anybody can take the code from the "search(advanced)" file(s) and then utilise the code to also enable it being placed whereby if a customer selects within "new products", "main categories" in fact any product listing module whereby one has multiple pages of results then please feel to do so.

Attachment:
search_results_filter.zip

I only ask on my behalf and the behalf of the previous developer, that whoever does manage to install further filtering to their site with the attached file(s), please post back in this topic with the new code and any relevant information for installation etc.

I look forward to others input to take this to other areas of our store's, not just search results.

Hi Ginerfool,

Any luck with this filtering code yet? Just curious as to how you were or weren't getting on.

We are working with a developer right now on a new filtering system. We should be testing by weeks end to compare against my previous hard coded work done by CRE Works. However, this new system will allow filtering based on up to ten different characteristics. It is also being tested to work with the new 6.4 PCI compliant version of CRE and is being done as an RCI module so that it will survive CRE patches and upgrades. Please let me know if you are interested by sending me a PM. Thanks,

Shawn @ Street Sports, Inc.

Hi Shawn,

I supposed the key question for everybody would be... "Is it fee paid interest" or is it "Open-Source non fee payment interest" :?:

I think if you could clarify the position in this regard, people will be able to contact you regarding this possible RCI 10 characteristics filter module knowing exactly what is or isn't required from us all for our interest and acceptance of it once it's ready etc?

Sounds mighty interesting, product filtering is one of those "Expected by Customers" prerequisite in my eyes, as it's what I use a hell of a lot in my own online shopping and most people I know use those features on most sites they visit to purchase things from.

One must keep in mind that "open source" absolutely does not mean something is free. It is one of the most misunderstood concepts around, and something that I myself was corrected on some time ago. It merely means that the source code is open and available for you to have access for further customization. Now if code has been released under GPL, then it is a "zero cost" solution. If someone takes GPL code and modifies it, then it too must be re-released as GPL "zero cost". I have personally spent thousands of dollars on my "free, open source" CRE Loaded shopping cart to get it the way that I want it. Every time the shopping cart gets a patch, it breaks my "free" solutions and I have to pay a developer to get my "freely available" code to work again. I am now sick and tired of paying so much for my "free" solutions.

I am now working with a developer to make a new, from scratch, all new code and logic, filtering mechanism in an RCI type module so that it will survive the constantly changing CRE shopping cart. So in this case, the module will be a paid module. It will be, however, substantially cheaper than EVERY OTHER DEVELOPER that I know of. It will probably be somewhere between $299 and $399 in final form. It depends on how much more money is accrued in it's development.

To give you an example of how cheap this is, my current to get my current filter ported to work with the new 6.4 PCI version was quoted to me by Richard Stupansky Jr (who works for Sal) at a minimum of $1600.00. And this is from Sal, who is who I worked with in the first place, who will NOT consider this work to fall under warranty of the original work that my FIRST payment to him was $850.00 for this work and my ongoing money I paid resulted in thousands of dollars spent (but this new RCI module will be warranted for upgrades at no charge). This new work is also resulting in thousands of dollars of work, but by spreading the cost over multiple clients, we all save money. In one sense, you could consider it to be a group buy. I don't need my online store to have any more than about four filters. Year, Make, Model, and trim level or engine size of a vehicle in order to return the query to sort the parts that fit. But we are working on a ten filter ability because you might need more than I do. We figure that ten different filtering variables should fit just about any type of business, so that is being coded in.

Keep in mind, that I am actually the main client that got the project going with this developer. So I am in your shoes as far as my needs go with this custom mod. I am just trying to find as many as possible to work with me to bring the price down for everybody including myself. Heck, let's get 10,000 shops on board and we'll only have to pay one dollar each for it. I'm game. Let me know if you are interested.

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for taking the time out to reply in such length, it's much appreciated.

I apologise for my terminology of fee based / open source = free. I do understand it doesn't mean free, only if a developer wants to develop some open source code for fun in his / her spare time and chuck it back in to the community, as has happened a fair amount in my time on the net.

I just can't justify such a huge spend I'm afraid on one development part of my site, as currently it's cost me an arm and a leg and until I launch January 4th 2010, start making some form of turnover, the budget is almost dried up but I wish you well with finding other people who are financially better placed at present to jump on the bandwagon and get them a piece of this add-on you are trying to get designed.
